V23 & V24 Node Upgrade Deadlines Quietly Updated β No Proactive Official Announcement
May 13, 2026 at 07:13 AM
If you only rely on official announcements for updates, you might not be aware of this.
OrbitWatch, while tracking official node technical documentation, discovered that the Pi Core Team has quietly updated the V23 and V24 deadlines in the Node Operation Guide's Google Doc, without issuing any proactive announcement.
Updated Schedule
V23 Node Upgrade Deadline
Original: May 15, 2026
Updated: May 19, 2026
V24 Node Upgrade Deadline
Original: May 25, 2026
Updated: May 28, 2026
Currently, most online information sources, including major crypto media outlets, are still citing the old May 15th deadline. If you are running a node, please refer to the updated dates in the document.
Why the Update?
This isn't the first time Pi Network's schedule adjustments have occurred without proactive announcements.
Looking back at past records:
| Version | Original Schedule | Actual Schedule | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| V20 | Pi Day (3/14) | 3/12 | 2 days early |
| V21 | 3/27 | 4/6 | 10 days late |
| V22 | 4/22 | 4/30 (On-chain confirmed) | 8 days late |
| V23 | 5/15 | Updated to 5/19 | 4 days late |
| V24 | 5/25 | Updated to 5/28 | 3 days late |
From this pattern, it appears the official team tends to update schedules in technical documents in real-time, rather than necessarily issuing formal announcements. For Pioneers who want to get first-hand information, directly tracking the official technical documentation is a more reliable method.
Practical Impact for Node Operators
If you haven't completed the V23 upgrade yet:
Then you should continue to monitor the computer running your node:
- Confirm whether Docker has downloaded the V23 Image and is running the V23 Container
- If the V23 Container is already running, check in the node application whether manual database migration is required.
If you have already completed the V23 upgrade:
No action is needed. Simply await instructions for V24. The V24 deadline is now May 28.
Impact on Regular Miners
For regular miners who don't run nodes, this deadline adjustment has no direct impact on you.
However, it's worth noting: Does the deadline extension mean that the actual on-chain protocol switch for V23 will also be delayed accordingly?
Honestly, it's currently uncertain. There was a three-day gap between the V22 node deadline (April 27) and the actual on-chain protocol_version switch (April 30). The situation for V23 might be similar β the node deadline is May 19, but on-chain confirmation might only occur a few days later.
OrbitWatch's Horizon API monitoring checks the protocol_version field every 15 minutes and updates immediately once the switch is complete.
OrbitWatch Website Update
We have simultaneously updated the upgrade countdown timers on our website:
- V23: Deadline displayed as May 19, 2026
- V24: Deadline displayed as May 28, 2026
These types of 'detail updates without proactive announcements' are precisely why OrbitWatch continuously tracks official technical documentation. You don't need to sift through documents yourself; we're keeping an eye on them for you.
